Dear Doctor:
Because our first world-wide virtual congress, offered with added material each working day during three weeks in December of 2007, was very well received, I am happy to announce that the International Society has authorized the production of a second virtual congress. We expect it to be available early in 2009.
Some elements of a virtual congress have a brief lifespan. But the major substance of the first virtual congress remains available on the ISR website. This includes the lectures by many very distinguished radiology teachers plus electronic posters and case studies from academic radiology centers in many countries. The second virtual congress will have many of the same useful features as the first one and will also be maintained for a considerable period of time.
Virtual congresses are not the only additions to radiology education which now increases the importance of our ISR website. The complete text with illustrations of “Imaging of Tropical Diseases” by Philip Palmer and Maurice Reeder is now available on the ISR website. We are exploring the addition of other teaching materials which any radiologist can access via his computer at work or home.
The producers of the second virtual congress are Luis Donoso Bach of Spain and Ricardo Garcia Monaco of Argentina. They produced the first ISR virtual congress and before that the Spanish language virtual congress which has been an outstanding success now for several years.
Now that the ISR is committed to the exciting field of electronic learning, we hope to add many other teaching packages. We will welcome possible contributions and suggestions from any members of our national societies.
